Background

Sightings like these occurred prior and as far back as 2013. But, they weren't as frequent. The incidents mainly consisted of people seeing one to two people dressed as creepy clowns. Very few of them became violent. The number of sightings were in the hundreds. However, many claim that most of them are fake.

Sightings

The first sighting occurred on August 29 in Greenville, North Carolina. It was simply of a clown trying to lure a boy to him. Luckily, the clown wasn't successful and the boy is safe. By September, the frequency of the sightings exploded. Law enforcement departments began to issue warnings against clown crimes. At this point these sightings became more violent. By mid-October, a "clown purge" was rumored to occur on Halloween Eve. Nothing huge happened, but a Floridian family was attacked on Halloween. After this, the sightings began to dwindle. A film based on the sightings is being released.

Theory

I personally feel that the first sighting was real. However, the following sightings seem fake. The ones that involve crime are obviously real, which is unfortunate. I will say, the paranoia at my school was real. Everyone thought we were going to be attacked by Killer Clowns. Luckily not outer space ones.
